The esteemed football figure has declared that he is not seeking a comeback in football management, explaining that it would be difficult to recreate the special mission he experienced as head of the Three Lions.

The former coach expressed his aim to focus his energy toward engaging the youth and addressing what he described as a widespread pessimistic outlook presently prevalent in the country.

Pursuing Different Paths Beyond Football

During a broadcast discussion, the manager was prompted regarding rumors linking him with vacant management roles in the Premier League and elsewhere.

“My role with England was not just a job—it was a mission representing my nation,” he replied. “It will be tough to match that experience. After nearly four decades in the game, I’m now exploring new fields where I can contribute positively.”

A Passion for Positive Examples

Prior to the publication of his upcoming book, his new work on leadership, he emphasized that he is “very passionate” about providing role models for young people, applying lessons from his period as England’s men’s football manager from 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

Southgate feels that his journey coaching England, during which the team evolved from being widely disliked to broadly loved, holds wider relevance.

“At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he explained. “People saw us as high-ego players but we were able to turn that around. I saw the power that the team had to bring people together of every community.”

Parenting and Influencing Youth

Speaking from his experience as a father, Southgate remarked: “Every parent aims to provide a solid foundation, yet there comes a time when children stop heeding parental advice. I’ve faced this at home, just like others, and I believe this area is critically important.”

He added: “Currently, a pessimistic story dominates national discourse, and we must offer youth optimism and direction. The country is full of potential, but young individuals require positive influences and supportive peers, as these choices shape their futures profoundly.”

Togetherness Beyond Division

The former manager stressed that “the British people share more commonalities than differences” but that the societal attention often emphasizes division.

“It’s understandable why people are disaffected,” he stated. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.”

His forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is expected to offer additional perspectives on management and national identity drawn from his notable career.
