Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
