The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
