The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
