The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
